Fat Heads - Day 2

Up at daybreak, the Days Inn had a decent continental breakfast. Following a short, snowy drive to Pittsburgh, we rode up and down the inclines that give a great view of the city and the intersection of the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. It was a bit chilly at the top, while checking out the architecture in the area. Speaking of architecture, we had intentions of checking out two F. L. Wright houses in the area, but both were closed on Mondays.

Lunch and a beer were picked up at Fat Heads pub. Their menu included the sandwich ranked 5th in the country by Maxim magazine. For $9, you get a fantastic roll about the circumference of an old 45 record. Piled inside was about half an intestine of kielbasa, 3 or 4 fried pierogies, a couple slices of American cheese, sautéed onions, and “horsey” sauce. It was Awesome! CuzJoe also got a couple of the other items and was equally impressed. All came with homemade potato chips. I highly recommend it.

We skipped out on the ball game…too cold. With the extra hours, we decided to head a bit south for whatever warmth we could find. After entering Ohio, we shot to Woodsfield, and took the Route 26 scenic drive to Marietta (2 hours). It’s a winding, rising, sinking and spinning road that follows the path of the Little Muskingum river. The route was unique for its rustic covered bridges. (Dad – thx for the book on these types of drives!)

From there we continued down to Charleston, WV. A fine dinner, though preordained not to live up to the Fat Head’s sandwiches. Tonight we are schlepping at a Super 8 Motel. We are looking forward to stepping it up a notch soon and getting the full treatment at the finer hotels of Chicago. Though we may not make it by next evening.

Perhaps Lexington tomorrow, and then begin turn North to Chicago. For those Cinci relatives, I will be back later in the trip to take full advantage of your hospitality.

I must get my map of the US out and begin following your route. It's bringing back memories of my trip last year. Me, Mom and Scully. Damn dog slept all day and was awake all night. So, I was awake all night and driving all day. Bitch (I totally mean that like as in a female dog...).

Good to here from Mom & Pop - hope you are having fun in the Greek isles.

Drive safely and don't pick up any hitchikers near penitentiaries. It's a bad idea....

Drive on, my brothers....

HI -

I have much to say:

1. I didn't know the price of stamps is going up! What an informative blog!

2. It's warm & sunny in the west, bring Joe out here.

3. I'm taking a short game class June 18 - July 25, let me know if you're interested.

4. Max is looking forward to leggoland.

5. Drive carefully and be safe.

Your Jewish heritage (or lack thereof) is showing through. The following is the definition of Schlep:

To carry clumsily or with difficulty; lug: schlepped a shopping bag around town.

To move slowly or laboriously: schlepped around with the twins in a stroller.

n.
An arduous journey.
A clumsy or stupid person.
[Yiddish shlepn, to drag, pull, from Middle Low German slēpen.]

So, you are schlepping across the country, but not schlepping at a Super 8 Motel.

Hope you find warm weather.

mfox - you almost sound like papafox with that highly infomative input. many gramattical appologies...i guess i have run out unique ways to term things, so i am stretching some meanings...actually, I am just ignorant.
