Seismic Activity - Day 6 and beginning of Day 7

Seismic flew in from S.F today. From the airport we went to Frank Lloyd Wright's home town of Oak Park, IL. With our tour at 3PM, we had an hour to stroll around the neighborhood. Wright homes are scattered around the adjoining blocks. Some stunning architecture. The guide said there are 36 of his designs in the town. On the tour we saw his residence for a large part of his career and also his workshop. Both were of course his own designs, and they were elegant, unique, beautiful, and also quirky.

Because of the lateness of the tour, we rushed to make our reservations at Joe's Steakhouse (no relation to CuzJoe). We had the seafood appetizer (stone crab, shrimp, ceviche, and lobster) and followed that with sauteed spinach, a bone-in fillet and a fish I never pronounced right, so I'd guess it's spelled like ghefeltefish. All were fantastic, proving once again that if you cook with enough butter, it's a guaranteed success. An excellent French wine can't hurt either.

After that we went to the lounge at the top of the Hancock building. The panoramic views of the city were worth the price of admission. We capped the night off at a jazz club, but unfortunately my batteries were running low, and I couldn't appreciate it as much as I should have.

CuzJoe has his own tales of Day 6. We reunited today and I was again thwarted by weather from going to the Cubs game. We decided we were ready to put some distance between us and the Windy City and are now making a beeline for St. Louis and probably beyond a bit. Gonna be a quiet day of driving.

Treason Pal posted a comment on the prior post about waiting for today's update. Well, Treason, that's not how this thing's going to work. I won't be at your beck and call for a post; sometimes I won't feel like it and not post; sometimes I won't have a good enough Internet access; and sometimes life happens, and I'm just too happy (or drunk) to be posting.

Goodbye Chicago.

You will regret it. I mean really, a year from now (or a month from now when you are sleeping in the desert across the street from our house, you WILL regret it).

You can't keep us hanging with all this good stuff...

Hi, this is Linda and Glen from Minnesota - co-guests at the Majestic. We're home now, but wanted to tell you that Friday night we wound up on the roof of the downtown Marina Towers (where Glen's bus-driving brother stays when he's in Chicago). The roof is at least 60 floors up and the only enclosure is an iron fence. Talk about scary!

Best wishes for the next leg (pun intended) of your trip!

Linda and Glen from Minnesota - it was great talking with you the other morning. Unfortunately on the way out of town, we didn't think we could fit in the Train excursion. We wanted to get to warmer weather as fast as possible.

The Marina Towers roof sounds awesome...I bet the views were spectacular.

Thanks for checking in and best wishes to you!

Thanks again for a fantastic day, Roadtripper! :-) And for the record, I still say Gino's East is better than Giordano's, so that means you'll have to go back to Chicago and try it someday - maybe in the summertime so you can enjoy the beaches...
